About this Independent Study

This online course is to help prepare clinicians to sensitively care for LGBTQ2S clients and to provide quality, inclusive, sexual health assessment and optimal HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for staff who provide medical care to American Indian and Alaska Native patients. This includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants and other staff involved in patient care, including clinical providers working with Indian Health Services, Tribally Operated Clinics and Urban Indian Clinics.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, participants will be able to:

Incorporate best practices for offering patient-centered sexual healthcare for persons from gender and sexual minorities

Outline a framework for obtaining culturally sensitive sexual histories from LGBTQ2S patients and explain why this is important in clinical care

Explain basic principles of HIV transmission, testing, treatment, and prevention to patients at risk for infection

Compare and contrast the currently available forms of biomedical HIV prevention: U=U, PEP, and PrEP
