This is an advanced level motivational interviewing course. If you need a refresher on motivational interviewing basics, please take a basic level course, such as:

• How Do I Help My Clients Make Changes to Improve Their Health
• Motivational Interviewing

Note that these courses may or may not offer CHW CE and are not required for this course.

Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will have an opportunity to:

• Code exemplar MI sessions for effective use of OARS
• Practice ‘Defusing Discord’ (formerly ‘Rolling with Resistance’)
• Practice OARS techniques in role plays, based on current skill (novice vs advanced)
• Practice crafting complex reflections for hypothetical client statements

Course Completion

• Learners are expected to complete all parts of the course, including pre-work, and post-work in order to receive a certificate.
• The instructor-led portion of the course on Zoom is interactive, and learners must participate to complete it.

What you will need:

• A computer with internet
• Video and microphone capabilities (to engage in the live Zoom session)
• A space without distractions

Continuing Education

CHW and CHW-I

After successfully completing the course, learners may receive 4 hours of DSHS certified CHW or CHW-I CEUs. This includes 1 hour Knowledge Base, 1 hour Capacity Building Skills, 2 hours Interpersonal Skills.

Cardea is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services to provide continuing CHW hours in Texas, Certification #44 and continuing CHW-I hours in Texas, Certification #55.
