Most parents in the U.S. vaccinate their children, but there is more work to be done to meet the Healthy People 2020 goals of 80 percent. Recent data suggest that vaccine hesitancy is a growing problem, specifically the number of parents who are opting children out of required school entry immunizations for non-medical reasons. In Washington, around four percent of parents exempt their child.

Who Should Take This Course

This course is designed for physicians, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and medical assistants

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this independent study participants will be able to:

  • List three characteristics of vaccine-hesitant parents.
  • Describe the importance of provider-parent communication on parental vaccine decision-making.
  • Identify communication strategies that address the concerns of vaccine hesitant parents.
