This three-part eLearning series is designed for clinical staff — including physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, and licensed vocational/practical nurses — who serve American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people in the Great Plains Area.
The modules offer both clinical knowledge and culturally grounded context to strengthen care delivery, while honoring the sovereignty, resilience, and health priorities of Indigenous communities. Learners will gain practical skills and deeper understanding to support respectful, effective, and equity-focused care for HIV, HCV, and syphilis.

Who Should Take This Course
Clinical and community health staff, including physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, advanced practice nurses, RNs, and LVN/LPNs who serve AI/AN people.
Learning Objectives
By the end of these modules, learners will be able to:
- Center Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination in clinical and community health decision-making, understanding how history and policy shape today’s health systems and services.
- Recognize the strength and resilience of AI/AN communities in addressing HIV, HCV, and syphilis, even amidst systemic and historical challenges.
- Apply current clinical guidelines for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, while integrating culturally grounded practices.
- Strengthen partnerships between clinical providers, public health programs, and communities, building trust through listening, accountability, and shared responsibility.
- Address stigma and inequities that impact prevention, screening, and treatment, with strategies informed by Indigenous knowledge and experience.

3. Clinical Essentials for HCVThis course will enhance novice and experienced clinicians’ ability to provide comprehensive care to patients with HCV and decrease patient referrals. The course will also include best practices in policy and informatics to mitigate or solve organization and system issues. 1.0 credit |
4. Clinical Essentials for SyphilisLab interpretation, history-taking and clinical staging of syphilis can be complicated and nuanced. This independent study covers history-taking, lab interpretation, staging, treatment and prevention. Collaboration with partner services and linkage to care services is also included. 1.0 credit |
