Foundations of Testing and Navigation
Course
This course consists of pre-work, five live Zoom sessions, and post-work and can take up to 20 hours to complete all modules. The goal of this course is to prepare new prevention specialists to perform HIV tests, deliver results and initiate status-neutral navigation.
Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will have an opportunity to:
- Describe the status-neutral continuum (including PrEP, PEP, U=U)
- Explain combination prevention using the Healthy Options Job Aid
- Describe stigma and its impact on health inequities
- Define and mitigate unconscious bias
- Apply the process outlined in the Conversation Guide
Requirements
- Participants' supervisors must agree their staff will attend all 5 live virtual sessions, in a private space without distractions or other work.
- Learners are expected to attend every session and complete all course work to receive their certificate of completion.
- Learners are expected to have a computer with a microphone, camera, and speakers/headphones to join the Zoom session.
- DSHS has requested the contact information of learners who are unable to complete the course for potential follow-up to learn about barriers to course completion.
Supervisors
Supervisors should allow learners work time and a work area to attend the live sessions and complete assignments. The full course will take up to 20 hours of learners’ time.
Virtual Format
This course will be held over several weeks, including time for the pre-work and the two weeks of live Zoom sessions.

Live Zoom Session

Pre-work/Post-workEach live session will require pre-work and post-work, including an Evaluation. These must be completed in order to receive a certificate of completion. |
Virtual 2024 Session Dates: All sessions run from 1:00-3:00PM, Central Time
Each individual course will open 30 days prior to the 1st live Zoom session to allow for prerequisite and pre-work completion.
