About this Course
This course aims to build intermediate knowledge of HIV biology, testing, and diagnosis by addressing the HIV life cycle, HIV medications and their impact on the HIV life cycle, HIV testing technologies, and HIV testing algorithms and screening recommendations.
This course includes three required components: a brief pre-test to measure your knowledge before the course, the self-paced course, and a post-test to assess your learning. There is also an optional, anonymous survey to provide feedback on the course. Learners will receive a certificate of completion when the required components are complete.
Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. Review the stages of the HIV life cycle
2. Recall how HIV medications affect the HIV life cycle
3. Describe laboratory markers of HIV and related testing technologies
4. Identify HIV testing algorithms for diagnosis
5. Recall HIV screening recommendations
Audience
Members of the HIV/STI/VH public health workforce in Texas, especially those who are new to the field or want to build their knowledge of HIV biology, testing, and diagnosis.
This course is required for DSHS contractors funded to provide Focused Testing or Clinical Prevention Services (only required for unlicensed staff). All funded and in-kind staff must complete this course within the first 12 months of employment.
