Trauma-Informed Care: Concept to Practice

About this Course
This course aims to build foundational knowledge of trauma-informed care (TIC) by addressing the basics of TIC history, types of trauma and their impacts, and strategies and basic interventions to support clients and yourself.
This course includes three required components: a brief pre-test to measure your knowledge before the course, the self-paced course, and a post-test to assess your learning. There is also an optional, anonymous survey to provide feedback on the course. Learners will receive a certificate of completion when the required components are complete.
Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. Review the history of TIC
2. Distinguish the types of trauma
3. Identify the impacts of trauma on client behavior and public health outcomes
4. Identify the four “R”s of a trauma-informed approach
5. Recall SAMSHA’s six principles of trauma-informed care to support clients
6. Review individual and organizational protective factors to support the HIV workforce
Audience
Members of the HIV/STI/VH public health workforce in Texas, especially those who are new to the field.
This course is required within the first 12 months of employment for all DSHS-funded and in-kind staff.
