About this Course
This course aims to develop intermediate knowledge of hepatitis A, B, and C viruses (HAV, HBV, and HCV) by addressing transmission, prevention, testing, and treatment, the history and epidemiology of HCV in Texas and the United States, and the syndemic nature of viral hepatitis.
This course includes three required components: a brief pre-test to measure your knowledge before the course, the self-paced course, and a post-test to assess your learning. There is also an optional, anonymous survey to provide feedback on the course. Learners will receive a certificate of completion when the required components are complete.
Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. Identify risk factors related to acquisition and transmission of HAV, HBV, and HCV
2. Summarize the prevention, detection, and treatment of HAV, HBV, and HCV
4. Recognize the syndemic nature of viral hepatitis, co-occurring infections (i.e. HIV), and injection drug use
5. Strategize to integrate hepatitis education, screening, and treatment into prevention and care continuums
Audience
Members of the public health workforce in Texas, especially those who are new to the field or want to build their knowledge of viral hepatitis.
This course is required for DSHS contractors funded to provide Focused Testing or Clinical Prevention Services (only required for unlicensed staff). All funded and in-kind staff must complete this course within the first 3 months of employment.
