Course Goal

This course aims to build foundational knowledge and skills in facilitating status-neutral HIV testing sessions, performing fingersticks, and performing basic venipuncture.

Audience

HIV testing staff and frontline supervisors who are new to the workforce in Texas

Note: This course does not provide training on specific HIV test devices, and it does not certify learners in phlebotomy. 

Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an HIV testing session through role play, including result delivery
  • Practice communication skills to ensure effective collaboration with clients
  • Summarize key components of planning outreach testing, including building partnerships, recruiting priority populations, and addressing confidentiality and safety across a variety of settings
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform a fingerstick to collect blood specimens for HIV testing
  • Demonstrate basic venipuncture skills to collect blood specimens for HIV testing

    Course Completion

    • Learners must complete all course requirements and attend the entire course to receive a certificate of completion.

    • The maximum number of participants is 20. If this course is full, you will be added to a waitlist.

    1. Registration

    Complete Screening Questionnaire to register for this in-person training

    2. Logistics & Attendance Confirmation

    Information about travel logistics (accommodations, airport, etc.) and confirmation of your attendance in-person

    3. Pre-test

    Pre-test (assessment) and files and other pertinent resources for the course

    4. Post-test and Evaluation

    Complete the Post-test and Evaluation to receive your certificate of completion.
