Course Goal

This course aims to equip Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) in Texas with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively manage STI/HIV cases, conduct notification and patient interviews, and enhance communication and partner elicitation strategies.

Learner Audience

New DIS and supervisors in Texas who:

The maximum number of participants is 12. If this course is full, you will be added to a waitlist.

Objectives

By the end of this training, learners will be able to:

  • Model appropriate DIS interviewing techniques with clients 
  • Demonstrate how to effectively communicate basic STI/HIV information to clients 
  • Demonstrate assertive communication skills 
  • Apply problem-solving methodologies to issues encountered in client interactions  
  • Explain the key components of the seven steps of syphilis case management 
  • Accurately plot a visual case analysis (VCA)

Course Completion

  • Learners must achieve a minimum score of 80% on a comprehensive entrance exam.
  • Learners must complete all course requirements and attend the entire course to receive a certificate of completion.

  • Foundations of HIV Testing and Navigation

1. Registration FSTDI

Complete Screening Questionnaire to register for this in-person training

2. Prerequisites & Entrance Exam

Complete the CDC's Train Texas "DIS Fundamentals Training Plan" prerequisites and Entrance Exam for this in-person training

3. Logistics & Attendance Confirmation FSTDI

Information about travel logistics (accommodations, airport, etc.) and confirmation of your attendance in-person

4. Pre-test FSTDI

5. Post-test and Evaluation FSTDI

Pass the Post-test and complete the evaluation to receive your certificate of completion
